The photos I saw that Nick Brandt took were really stunning in black and white. He captured a very wide variety of animals and they all look gorgeous and have interesting subjects. The contrast between black and white was strong throughout but my favorite was the picture of the zebras shown below.

The rule of photography used in this picture is line. They show up in the zebra and the dark horizon line against the clouds.
He only uses a  Pentax 67II with only two fixed lenses. This is important because it forces the photographer to get in closer to the animals. We talking of this Brandt says, "You wouldn't take a portrait of a human being from a hundred feet away and expect to capture their spirit; you'd move in close." He takes these photos because he wants to capture the beauty of african animals before their environment is destroyed. He hopes to raise awareness by taking these photos.
