Hard News Earthquake story

Yesterday at 8:12 a.m. A quake struck San Francisco, California in the Bay Area Monday morning. The quake killed two people and injured six others at McHenry’s Aust supply located at 2342 Plum St. Their names are being withheld until families are notified, according to Jennifer Vu, a public information officer for the Hayward Fire Department. The quake had a magnitude of 6.4 on the Richter Scale and Mike Beamer, who lives across the street from McHenry’s said, “I was eating my breakfast when the room started rolling. I dove under the table just as I heard an explosion outside and a chunk of cement flew through my kitchen window. That’s when the screaming started across the street”. Using ropes to stabilize the auto shop, Hayward firefighters conducted a search and while they were there they found a gas leak at the site. Twenty-one personnel, 12 police and five American Red Cross workers came to the emergency. Three of the six people injured were seriously hurt and required hospital

Hard News Huntington Story

A gun accidentally went off last night in Barstow, California, at a woman named Janice Jones’s mobile home. At the time Jones was with her dog eating pork chops and she was parked on Beach Boulevard near Highway 1. Her dog, a Pomeranian named Tombo, knocked her 9mm handgun off the seat and it discharged as it hit the floor. The shot went through Jones’s right leg and into the side of the vehicle. This happened around 10 p.m. on Wednesday. Rye a highway Patroller said that, “It could have been much worse...The bullet hit two inches from the gas tank.” Jones was check into Huntington beach Hospital and was later moved to Irvine Medical Center. As for her dog, Tombo sent to the Huntington Beach Animal Control officers where he was inspected. The dog was malnourished and had fresh cigarette burns on its forehead. A nut graf is an introduction to the story. It gives the reader the basics and explains why they should read this story/ care about this topic. This can help the reader decide if they really want to read the story. It is important to include the nut graf because it sets up the story and gives the writer somewhere to start. The nut graf is usually about a paragraph long and will try to include the who, what, when, where, how, and why of the story. It would be an ok idea, becuase it would be more uniform and unbiased. 2) Why do you think dress codes are important/unimportant for our campuses?
