Aperture, Shutter speed, and IOS

Aperture

This photo was taken at F 2.8-

And this photo was taken at F16-
Questions-
  1. What part of the body should we closely relate Aperture to? We should relate Aperture to the eye, specifically the pupil, because it can be larger or smaller just like the lens of a camera.
  2. Finish this sentence- The smaller the aperture, the larger the hole, and the higher the aperture, the smaller the hole.
  3. In your own words tell me how aperture impacts Depth of Field. Aperture effects depth because the smaller the aperture, the more blurry the background gets, making it look farther away, or more indepth.

Shutter Speed-

This photo was taken at a higher shutter speed-

And this photo was taken at a lower shutter speed-

Questions-
Light out
a.) a booth in the middle of the yard near the tree
A medium low speed because there will be less light under the shade of the tree.
b.) a food booth outside under one of the big red awnings
A very medium speed like 1/125 or 1/60 because people will not be moving very fast and there will be plenty of light.
c.) the Stars performance inside the gym
A higher shutter speed like 1/1000 or 1/500 to capture the movement of their dance.
d.) students dancing near the center of the courtyard
A more medium speed like 1/250 since their motion will not be very fast, and there will be lots of light.
e.) people streaming in from the front doors
Maybe 1/15 or ⅛ to get a photo that has a cool blur effect.
f.) the basketball booth where students are shooting basketballs at a hoop
A higher speed of 1/1000 to capture the action of the shots.
Dark out
a.) a booth in the middle of the yard near the Tree
A much lower speed like 1/15 or ⅛ because of the lack of light outside.
b.) a food booth outside under one of the big red awnings
The same as the booth because you will need more time for the light to be exposed.
c.) the Stars performance inside the gym
The same as indoors because the change in sunlight won’t affect the inside of the building.
d.) students dancing near the center of the courtyard
Maybe a 1/60 or 1/30 to get the motion and the lighting right.
e.) people streaming in from the front doors
Probably a 1/15 or ⅛ because there will be less light later in the day.
f.) the basketball booth where students are shooting basketballs at a hoop
A 1/125 or 1/60 to get the motion and capture the lighting.

The 3 settings regarding shutter speed are, automatic, manuel, and shutter priority. Automatic will set the shutter speed and aperture for you, shutter priority will let you set the shutter speed, and manuel will let you set both speed and aperture.

IOS-

  1. The advantage of shooting at a higher IOS is that it will not ruin the motion of the shot and will help freeze the motion in place.
  2. The author said you should keep your IOS as low as possible so that you get better quality photos.
  3. The author said you should only use higher IOS for action shots.
